| North
Florida Women's Health & Counseling Services, Inc.,
located in Tallahassee, Florida, was founded in 1981 to provide
the women of North Florida and South Georgia with compassionate,
confidential abortion services and well-woman gynecological
care. It is our philosophy that women should be given the
resources necessary to participate fully in their health care.
Because we recognize the importance of treating more than
just a woman’s body, we strive to meet the emotional
and intellectual needs of our patients as well.
Our dedicated staff care deeply about your comfort.
Our consultant Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE)
licensed gynecologists are experienced in abortion services
to better ensure your health and safety.
Our facility is licensed and inspected by the State
of Florida. We are members of the National
Abortion Federation, the Association
for Reproductive Health Professionals, and the Abortion
Care Network, all of which are professional organizations
dedicated to keeping reproductive health care safe and
accessible.
First trimester abortion services are provided at our
facility. We offer Chemical Abortion
(RU486, abortion by pills) for women up to 62 days from
their last normal menstrual period (LNMP), and Vacuum
Aspiration abortion for women up to 13 weeks
and six days from their LNMP. This dating is verified
using ultrasound.
Women seeking these services participate in a preliminary
meeting which includes an information session covering
the abortion method, after care instructions, decision
making, and birth control needs. Cost of the abortion
includes the preliminary meeting, the abortion procedure,
and a follow-up exam at our facility.

Female
nurse practitioners provide well woman gynecological services
by appointment. Services include birth control exams, sexually
transmitted infection testing, ultrasound for gestational
dating, and annual GYN exams including pap smears and breast
exams.
We provide free urine pregnancy testing.
We give medically accurate information on abortion, unbiased
adoption information, and pre-natal care referrals. All of
our services are provided with your dignity and respect in
mind, and we maintain the strictest standards of confidentiality.
For more information about adoption call the Children’s
Home Society at 1-800-247-4600. You can also visit www.pregnancyoptions.info.
We are glad that after years of advocacy by reproductive health
professionals and others, one product used for Emergency
Contraception (EC), “Plan B”, is now
available without a prescription for anyone age 17 years or
older. You may request “Plan B” from
your local pharmacist. If you are younger than 17 years you
will need a prescription to obtain EC. Call our office for
a consultation appointment at (850) 877-3183. You can also
use the EC Hotline at 1-888-NOT-2-LATE or visit their website
at www.not-2-late.com.
EC will not work if you are already pregnant. Be sure
to take a pregnancy test before using EC. EC should be taken
as soon as possible after unprotected or inadequately protected
intercourse. EC may be used up to 120 hours after the act
of intercourse; however, the sooner you use EC the more effective
it is. Be sure to read the package insert for side effects
and mechanisms of action. EC is very effective but not
100% effective. You will need to take a pregnancy test
2-3 weeks after EC use to determine if it has prevented pregnancy.
As part of our dedication to women, we conduct educational
talks on birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections,
and reproductive rights for schools and community organizations.
We have been a leader in the pro-choice community, diligently
challenging any legislation that seeks to restrict a woman’s
right to choose. It is our goal to keep abortion safe and
legal, allowing women of all ages to have access to the best
care for years to come.
We encourage you to get involved in protecting your right
to choose safe, legal abortion. Call our office or contact
other pro-choice groups, such as the National Abortion
Federation www.prochoice.org,
or the Abortion Care Network www.abortioncarenetwork.org
for details about what you can do. Protect your right to choose.
Vote Pro-Choice.
